Valuables Stolen from 9 Rooms of IU Female Hall

Kushtia, August 08 (Correspondent/OurVoice): At least nine rooms of Khaleda Zia Hall of Islamic University in Kushtia have fall victim to burglary.

The incident came into light after the duty guards had made a visit at the hall on Saturday night, IU Proctor office said on Sunday.

Nine rooms on the second, third and fourth floors of the south block of the hall have been stolen. The proctorial body could not identify the valuables theft from the rooms.

It would be confirmed after talking to the victim students, IU Proctor Professor M Jahangir Hossain said. 

They found some valuables missing from the hall dining room, he said.

The victims claimed that their important papers, ceiling fans, clothes, utensils and other valuables had been kept at their rooms. But, they did not know what they lost from their rooms.

They, however, demanded the university authorities to beef up security measures during the closure due to the Covid-19 situation.

IU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor M Mahbubur Rahman, Treasurer Professor M Alamgir Hossain Bhuiya and Proctor Jahangir Hossain visited the spot.

Visiting the spot, IU Pro-VC said, “We have visited the spot.  But what is lost is not understood without talking to the students. ‘We have asked the hall authorities to talk to the students concerned.’

Khaleda Zia Hall Provost Professor Reba Mondol said that they would form an investigation committee soon and action would be taken against the culprits involved in the incident. 

Expressing concern regarding the theft incident, Bangladesh Chhatra Union Islamic University unit, demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and take legal action after identifying them.

Theft incidents had also taken place in different period of times at the rooms of Saddam Hossain Hall, Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Hall, Sheikh Russel Hall and  Rabindra-Nazrul Arts Building.

The incidents happened repeatedly but the university authorities did not take any effective measures to stop the incident on the campus.
