Dhaka, 09 March (JnU Correspondent/OurVoice) – Jagannath University students took out a torch procession this evening, demanding fair investigations into rape incidents across the country and the highest punishment for perpetrators.
The demonstration, which began around 7 pm, was particularly focused on seeking the maximum punishment for the rapists of an eight-year-old child in Magura. Chanting slogans such as "Catch every rapist, bury them one by one," the students voiced their anger and demand for justice.
Shahin Mia, a student of history department, said, Our protest is against the continued rape across the country. Introducing the death penalty openly will reduce such incidents. Rape has now become like an infectious disease, he added.
Sadea Ahmed Shila, a student of history department, said, incidents like rape are happening continuously across the country due to lack of proper enforcement of the law. She also said, the only punishment for rape should be death.
The rally started from the campus and returned to the campus via Tanti Bazar intersection. Around five hundred students joined the rally including Biplob Kumar, Kutub Uddin, Sayma, Shahnaj, Bristy, Mohammad Ali and Faysal.
