Discussion on 'post-revolutionary unity' held at JnU

Dhaka, December 05 (JnU Correspondent/OurVoice): With the aim of upholding the spirit of the July Revolution and to strengthen the national unity Jagannath University's Journalist Alliance organised a meeting titled 'Post Revolution Student Unity' with the participation of the leaders of various student organizations. 

The discussion was held in science faculty of the university on Wednesday. Prof. Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim, Vice-Chancellor of the university, inaugurated the programme.

Jagannath University's Treasurer Dr Sabina Sharmin, Islamic Studies department Chairman Dr Rais Uddin, JnU Proctor Dr Md. Tazzamol Hoque, Dr Bilal Hossain, Associate Professor of History department, among others, addressed the meeting.

Central leaders of many student organizations attended the programme including Hasnat Abdullah, Convener of Anti discrimination student movement, Rakibul Islam Rakib, President of Bangladesh Jatiyotabadi Chatradal and Manjurul Islam, President of Bangladesh Islami Chatra Shibir.

Dr Rezaul Karim delivered an inaugural speech and said, after the fall of the dictatorship, our only hope is that the student leaders will unite strongly and protect the independence and sovereignty of the country. We want to build a progressive democratic society against discrimination.

While addressing the programme, Hasnat Abdullah said, today's stage is just as important as we hold Hasina responsible for the past. If we cannot stop domestic and foreign conspiracies by uniting from this stage, we will have to stand in court.

Rakibul Islam Rakib said, the oppression, disappearances and murders during the fascist Hasina period was notable. Such disappearances and murders that have occurred in JnU and other places must be prosecuted in order to build an equitable and humane Bangladesh.

Manjurul Islam said, unless Chatra League's political trend is not removed, ordinary students will never accept any student organization. He also demanded student council elections quickly.

Mahmudul Hasan Tanveer, President of Jagannath university Sangbadik Samiti, presided over the meeting. Subarna As-saif, President of Jagannath University Press Club, and  Mamun Sheikh, Secretary General of Jagannath University Sangbadik Samiti jointly conducted the programme.
