Corrupted IU teachers lobbying to become Pro-VC, Treasurer

Kushtia, November 09 (Correspondent/OurVoice) – Islamic University's Arabic Language and Literature department Professor M Tozammel Hossain and Public Administration department Professor K M Motinur Rahman have started lobbying to get appointed as pro-VC and treasurer of the university.

After failing to become VC, they are now running to get appointed as pro-VC and treasurer of the university, sources said on Saturday.

Campus sources said that the candidates, who have been accused of various charges, have become desperate to get appointed to these positions.  

Many allegations against Professor M Tozammel Hossain and KM Motinur Rahman came to light in different times.

An allegation of financial irregularities was raised against Tozammel Hossain while performing his duties as the provost of Khaleda Zia Hall of the university during the tenure of IU's former vice-chancellor Professor M Rafiqul Islam.

The then university administration formed an inquiry committee to investigate the incident but it failed to submit its reports due to some unavoidable reasons.

Seeking anonymity, an IU BNP alliance senior teacher said that Tozammel embezzled huge amount of money by appointing teachers in various madrasas in collusion with Awami League during Madrasa Board under the university.

Several teachers of Zia Parishad, who did not wish to be named, said that Tozammel created factional conflict in the party to maintain his authority in the campus during the rule of Awami League. As a result, pro-BNP teachers started another organisation called Sada Dal.

In addition, during his tenure as the director of TSCC of the university, allegations of providing special benefits to the Bangladesh Chhatra League and Islami 'Chhtra Shibir' were also raised against Tozammel Hossain as well. 

Tozammel came to the teaching profession in the Arabaic department through political influence. He is not used to teaching students in Arabic. It is also known that later the students of the department staged a procession against him calling him an 'unfit' teacher.

Meanwhile, corruption, irregularity and breach of order are not retreating  Matinur Rahman, a professor of public administration. 

Matinur Rahman drank alcohol and started loitering in front of the student hall almost naked, late at night on August 17, 2001. 

An allegations of trying to enter the hall while drunk, beating policemen with liquor bottles and vandalizing police cars was also raised against him.

Later, the police filed a case against Motinur Rahman in this connection with Islamic University police station to look into the matter.

He is also accused of making an intimate relationship with a female student of his department in exchange for good results. 

Later, he subjugated the student by tempting her with good results. Motin also dreamed of making her a university teacher.  

He got involved in an immoral relationship with that female student.

Tozammel and Motin, however, could not be reached over the phone despite repeated attempts for their comments 

Many general students demanded to appoint Pro-VC and Treasurer from among the university students who qualified themselves as the teachers of the university.

If any corrupted teachers were made Pro-VC and treasurer, we would resist them, they added.

Anti-discrimination student movement IU coordinator S M Sweet said that the ministry concern should appint competent and clean image teachers as IU pro-VC and treasurer who will work for the betterment of the university.
