IU Teacher Khairul Islam obtains PhD degree

Dr. M Khairul Islam, an assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering department of Islamic University in Kushtia, obtained PhD degree under the Engineering faculty of the university recently.

Islamic University approved the degree at its 266th syndicate meeting held on the campus in Kushtia with IU vice-chancellor Professor Nakib Mohammad Nasrullah in the chair, IU academic official sources said on Tuesday.

The university awarded him the degree for his research entitled 'Improvement of Detection and Classification of Abnormalities in Medical Images using Deep Convolutional Neural Networks.'

He completed his PhD degree under the supervisions of IU's Information and Communication Technology department Professors M Mahbubur Rahman and Professor M Sipon Miah.

Throughout his research, Dr Khairul Islam made significant contributions to the field of medical image analysis, publishing several high-impact papers in renowned Elsevier journals. His work focuses on automating the detection and classification of abnormalities such as COVID-19, pneumonia, lung cancer (both malignant and benign) from medical images. 

His research also holds the potential to revolutionize the medical sector by advancing automatic detection and classification, greatly improving the efficiency and accuracy of diagnoses.
