Formation of Genocide Denial Act demanded in Dhaka

Islamic University's former vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Rashid Askari urged the government to make attempts to form an act similar to Genocide Denial Act with a view to criminalising the persons, who defame the spirit of Liberation War and malign its forces.
He came up with the statement, while addressing a seminar organised by Bangladesh Progressive Columnist Forum on 'Indemnity Ordinance and Sheikh Hasina's Imprisonment Day' held at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Tuesday.
After fifty four years of the Liberation war, some vested interests were still trying to malign the freedom fighters and justify the Rajakars.
They should be brought under law and resisted socially, politically and culturally, he said.
Presided over by Bangladesh Progressive Columnist Forum’s president Professor M Mizanur Rahman, Law, Justice and Parliamentary affairs minister Anisul Huq spoke here as chief guest.
Law-maker Tarana Halim and UGC member Biswajit Kumar Chanda spoke as special guests, while Afizur Rahman delivered welcome speech in the seminar.
Bangladesh Progressive Columnist Forum general secretary Professor Dr. Milton Biswas presented key-note speech, while National University vice-chancellor Professor Dr. M Mashiur Rahman spoke here as a discussant.
Around two hundred scholars and intellectuals took part in the seminar.
