Teachers and students demand VC from JnU 

Dhaka, August 20 (JnU Correspondent/OurVoice): Teachers and students of different departments of Jagannath University (JnU) stage a demonstration and rally on the campus in Dhaka on Tuesday, demanding to appoint a vice-chancellor among the university teachers.

JnU teachers and students organisze the demonstration programme in front of the university's Shaheed Minar at around 11 am. While addressing the program Dr. Mohammad Bilal Hossain, an associate professor of History department, said, if the vice-chancellor is appointed from JnU, he will understand overall administrative and academic issues from very first. But from the outside he actually takes at least 3 months to understand the environment and in this time he entered in a circle. So we want VC from JnU, who will understand the pulse of our teachers and students.

Muhammad Tazammul Haque, an associate professor of Islamic studies department, said, it is not our demand, but our right. He also said, this university has been a colony for 20 years. From now, if the VC is not appointed from JnU then the gates of this campus will be closed and VC will not be allowed to enter.

Shahin Mia, a student of History department said, those who have come to this university as VC from outside are only engaged in routine work, they have not looked around. Dhaka University teachers never want another university to rise up in Dhaka. That's why they want to transfer Jagannath University to Keraniganj. So we want VC from among the teachers of this university.

Above thousand of students of the university took part in the rally.
