Earth's Climate Crisis is getting worse and worse
Md Mahir Daiyan, Dhaka
Indeed, our economy and livelihood are very dependent on the world climate. Everything we have built to make our world better is based on a certain environment. If this environment doesn't get hold in a certain place our whole construction would fall one day. At the beginning of 2024, we can say that we are forwarding to the adverse situation of the environment. The story of our climate is having a crucial time itself. Recent data suggest that there has been a significant change in the Earth's climate, with 2023 being identified as one of the hottest years on record.
According to the European climate agency "Copernicus", the global temperature in 2023 exceeded pre-industrial levels by a significant 1.48 degree Celsius. This number is dangerously close to the limit of 1.5 degree Celsius set by the 2015 Paris climate agreement, interpreted as the worst effect of global warming (Source: India Today). The UK’s Met Office predicts a 27% probability that in 2024, average global surface temperature could surpass this threshold, which would be a significant moment in climate history.
This unusual increase in temperature is being caused by both natural and human-caused phenomena. The El Niño effect, a natural ocean-atmosphere phenomenon, is partially responsible for these temperature rises. In addition, the increase in solar activity and the 2022 eruption of a submerged volcano in Tonga have both had an impact on the warming. According to Reuters, this volcanic eruption caused significant amounts of water vapor to be discharged into the stratosphere. NASA has been instrumental in projecting complete global climate change scenarios during this troubling period of data. According to NASA, it is imperative to comprehend future climatic patterns and develop mitigation techniques for the effects of climate change.
Rising global temperature is more than just a statistic; that is a catalyst for extreme weather and natural disasters. The extreme heat has caused major problems throughout the world, including extensive droughts, deadly wildfires, and other environmental calamities. There has never been a more pressing need to promote international cooperation in order to move away from fossil fuel and reduce greenhouse gas emission.
Given the current state of our climate, both world leaders and individuals must step up and take immediate and meaningful action. The urgency to combat climate change is now more pressing than ever. The choices we make now will have a lasting impact on the well-being of future generations. At this critical juncture, we must come together to prioritize sustainable practices, think outside the box for innovative solutions, and present a united front against one of the most formidable challenges of our era.
In light of the current status of our climate, individuals and world leaders must take decisive action right away. There has never been a greater urgent need to address climate change. Future generations' well-being will be significantly impacted by the decisions we make now. We need to band together at this crucial moment to emphasize sustainable behaviors, look beyond the box for creative solutions, and put up a united front against one of the biggest obstacles of our time.
