IU Pays Homage to Language Movement Martyrs

Kushtia, February 21 (Correspondent/OurVoice): The authorities of Islamic University paid rich tribute to Language Movement martyrs by placing floral wreaths at its central Shaheed Minar on the campus in Kushtia, after the clock ticked past Saturday, to those who made the supreme sacrifice for establishing Bangla as a state language in 1952.
Marking the day, teachers, students, officials and employees of the university brought out mourning rally led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Shaikh Abdus Salam from the administration building.
The rally ended in front of the university’s Shaheed Minar after parading main roads of the campus.
Among others, IU VC Shaikh Abdus Salam, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor M Shahinoor Rahman, syndicate member Professor M Mahbubar Rahman, acting Registrar M Ataur Rahman and IIER Director Professor M Maher Ali took part in the rally.
IU authorities, later, placed floral wreath at the Shaheed Minar to pay tribute to the valiant sons of the land.
IUTA, Shapla Forum, Bangabandhu Parishad, Officers’ Association, IUJA, different, teacher, student and employee associations as well as different halls placed floral wreath at the Shaheed Minar.
They recalled both known and unknown language heroes, who laid their life for the mother tongue, by placing flowers and wreaths.
On Sunday, IU VC hoisted national flag at half-mast position, while Pro-Vice-Chancellor hoisted black flag in front of the administration building of the university around 10:00 am.
They also placed floral wreath at Mrittunjoyee Mujib mural to pay tribute to the country’s founding President Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
