Dhaka, December 3 (OurVoice) Uber, the world’s largest on-demand ride-sharing company, celebrated its first anniversary in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
From aspirations of getting a car at the tap of a button to shaping decongested and livable cities, Uber has been re-envisioning the way Dhaka moves for one year now.

It was mentioned in a press release from Uber about its highlights of the first 365 Days in Dhaka:In Dhaka, on average, an Uber can pickup you up in less than 7 minutes. Most popular times for trips on Uber have been 8 am-10 am and 5 pm-9 pm; overall more people travel on weekends than on weekdays. An Uber was requested 1.5 million times in the month of November 2017. More than 2 lakh people took an Uber trip just in November 2017. More than 10000 active driver partners every month and hundreds join every day. Uttara, Banani and Gulshan 1 have emerged as the most popular Uber destinations in the city. A single driver partner in Dhaka has taken 3350 trips – in kms the approximate equivalent of a trip to San Francisco and back! A single rider in Dhaka has taken 695 trips – in kms the approximate equivalent of a trip from Dhaka to Tokyo! It is observed that a diverse bunch of driver partners – from big fleet operators; to a single car owner who drives full time; to professionals from telcos and banks putting their cars on Uber for some additional income; to students who have taken up driving on weekends to earn extra pocket money
In its first year of operation in Dhaka, Uber launched new products, announced a strategic partnership and a safety initiative, to make riding with Uber a safe, reliable and comfortable experience for both riders and driver partners. These initiatives included: UberPREMIER and UberMOTO were introduced to meet the unique needs of the vast demographic of riders and driver partners in the city. Entered into a partnership with the country’s leading mobile network operator, Robi, to provide unique digital solutions to our driver partners and also a chance to complete on-boarding process at the Robi dealership walk-in centres. Launched an exclusive safety feature that connects to the government’s control room where ambulances, fire service, police and government agents can be reached in case of emergencies.
New in-app features included: Introduced Driver Compliments, which allows riders badges for driver partners at the end of a trip, which can be used by riders to show appreciation and positively reinforce good behaviour. Multiple Destinations feature was added to the app, which allows adding up to three stops before or during the trip. A fun feature was also added that allows riders to unlock unique Snapchat filters while on trip. From ‘Work Wonders’ that showcases the daily commute to ‘Your ETA’ filter that lets friends know the time till arrival, exclusive filters from Uber adds extra spice to rider’s Snapchat game.
On its first anniversary, Uber reiterates its commitment to give riders the freedom of mobility, create micro-entrepreneurship opportunities for driver partners, and to a vision of a decongesting Dhaka.
