Protest Rally on Rohingya issue before Peace Palace in The Hague

The Hague, 17 Sept (OurVoice): The European Rohingya Council and Care 4 Humanity organised a Protest Rally against Myanmar in front of the International Court of Justice (Peace Palace) in The Hague on 17 September from 3 to 5 p.m. The rally was arranged in protest against what they said, ‘ethnic cleansing operation’ against Rohingya Muslims in the name of counter insurgency operations.

The rally was attended by around 1000 people from different communities, mainly Turkish, Moroccans, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Surinamese and Burmese. Some Rohingya Muslims were also present at the rally. A sizeable number of Muslim women were also seen at the rally carrying placards against Myanmar regime and its leader, Aung San Suu Kyi. Some Rohingyas from Frankfurt (Rohingya Block) also attended the rally and one of them addressed the rally. One Rohingya representing European Rohingya Council Netherlands also spoke.

The rally called upon the Dutch government to put direct pressure on Myanmar govt to stop atrocity crimes against Rohingya civilians and to initiate necessary measures through European Union and the UN to stop Myanmar committing ‘ethnic cleansing’.

The rally also demanded of the International Court of Justice to initiate process to bring perpetrators of ‘ethnic cleansing of Rohingya’ into justice. It called upon the Dutch media to bring Myanmar’s ‘ethnic cleansing of Rohingya’ into public attention and inform Dutch public on what have been unfolding against Rohingya people in Myanmar.

People with placard stop Genocide of Rohingya Muslims were found demonstrating there. Among them were from organisations such as 1) Masjid Al karam, Amsterdam, 2) Masjid Ghosia, Amsterdam, 3) Prime Minister Commission for Overseas Oakistan (Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis & Human Resource Division- Pervez Ali Sandhila is its member Netherlands as per the placard), 4) Pakistan-Dutch Community, 5) Dastak International Organisation.

MrNazrul Islam Mintu, General Secretary of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Netherlands said, “Rohingya Muslim population is the most persecuted population in the world. People even child are being killed, women are raped by the military. They took refuge in neighboring country, Cox’s bazar in Bangladesh. Under the authority of Myanmar government, these atrocities are on. He added, Government of Bangladesh is trying her best to accommodate this refugee. It has already exceeded 400,000 in last few weeks. They are suffering from hunger and shelter. There is no adequate safe water and sanitation for them. They are living under the sky, no proper shelter for them. We demand stop of this genocide against Rohingya people. Myanmar govt should bring back their people immediately. International community should put pressure on Myanmar to stop this oppression immediately and send relief to Bangladesh for Rohingya refugee, he concluded.  Dr. HlaKyaw, known as Dr. Khubaie, head of European Rohingya Council (ERC) based in the Netherlands also addressed the rally.

Relief team from Netherlands

Dr. HlaKyaw, known as Dr. Khubaie, head of European Rohingya Council (ERC) will go to Bangladesh to visit the Rohingya camps in Ukhia, Chittagong. He will be accompanied by a group of sympathisers and supporters, which include among others, head Imam of Nurul Islam masjid of the Hague and General Secretary of BNP Netherlands, Mr. Nazrul Islam Mintu. The team will bring fund collected by different masjids in the Netherlands and distribute those among the refugees in the camp.
