Mourning Day observed at Islamic University

Kushtia, August 15 (Correspondent/OurVoice): The authorities of Islamic University observed the National Mourning Day on the campus in Kushtia on Sunday with due respect and solemnity, marking the 46th death anniversary of the country’s founding President Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Marking the day, IU Vice-Chancellor Professor Shaikh Abdus Salam hoisted the national flag at half-mast position while IU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor M Mahbubur Rahman hoisted the black flag in front of the university’s administration building in the morning.
Later, the university authorities, IU Shapla Forum, Bangabandhu Parishad, different departments, activists of IU BCL unit, teacher, officer, staffs and student associations placed floral wreaths at Mrittunjoyee Mujib mural to pay tribute to Bangabandhu.
IU Treasurer Professor M Alamgir Hossain Bhuiya, acting Registrar M Ataur Rahman, IU Shapla Forum General Secretary Professor M Mahbubar Rahman, IIER Director Professor M Maher Ali among others were present on the occasion.
IU VC inaugurated the food distribution programme organised by the university unit Bangladesh Chhatra League, where former BCL IU Assistant Secretary Faisal Siddike Arafat and its former Education Affairs Secretary M Mijanur Rahman Lalon were present.
Sheikh Mujib was assassinated along with all but two of his family members on August 15, 1975 at his Dhanmandi residence in Dhaka by a group of army personnel.
His daughters — Sheikh Hasina, now the prime minister, and Sheikh Rehana — survived the massacre as they were abroad at that time.
