JnU Student Died in A Speedboat Accident

Dhaka, May 03 (JnU Correspondent/OurVoice): A student of Jagannath University (JnU) in the 2010-11 academic year died in a speedboat accident in Mawa.

He was a former student of the Political Science Department of Jagannath University. The deceased has been identified as Shahadat Hossain Mollah of Niamatkandi village in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur.

Jagannath University Proctor D. Mostafa Kamal has confirmed the news on Monday.

It is learned that the speed boat left Shimulia at 7.45 am on Monday. At that time, the speedboat sank by pushing a bulkhead carrying sand at the old wharf of Kanthalbari. At this time all the passengers fell into the water. Later, 24 bodies were recovered from the river one by one. Among them was Shahadat Hossain Mollah, a graduate of Jagannath University.

According to family sources, Shahadat lost his life in a speedboat sinking when it collided with a bulkhead at the old wharf of Banglabazar in Kanthalbari. Shahadat was the youngest of six sons and four daughters of Adam Ali Mollah and Rizia Begum. He passed his Masters from Jagannath University this year.

Shahadat Hossain Mollah’s cousin Dadan Mollah said, “Shahadat passed his Masters from Jagannath University this year. Shahadat went to Dhaka to give a job interview. He was returning home after the interview. Shahadat was not employed. He had to return as a corpse. I told him not to go inside the lockdown. Shahadat could not return home after the interview.”

University Proctor D. Mostafa Kamal said, “We are trying to contact his family. I requested to Shibchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Miraj Hossain to take steps to hand over the body with necessary instructions.”

His death has cast a shadow of mourning among his classmates and friends.
