The Bangabandhu inter-department cricket tournament began at Islamic University in Kushtia on Sunday amid festive mood and much enthusiasm.
IU Vice-Chancellor Professor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest at the central cricket playground on the campus around 11:30 am.
While addressing the inaugural session, IU VC said that every student should take part in sports, cultural and other extra-curricular activities so that they could abstain from drugs and other offensive acts.
A total of 32 departments out of 33 would take part in the tournament, Muhammad Sohel, Director of IU Physical Education Department said.
Among others, IU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor M Shahinoor Rahman, Treasurer Professor M Selim Toha, Acting Registrar SM Abdul Latif and Syndicate Member Professor M Mahbubar Rahman, among others, were present on the occasion.
