73 Victim of Cyber Bullying in BCL Activist’s ‘Fun Post’

Kushtia, August 21 (Correspondent/OurVoice): At least 73 female students of different departments of Islamic University in Kusthia have been allegedly the victims of cyber bullying in a Facebook post shared by the university unit Bangladesh Chhatra League.

The incident came into light on Saturday after IU BCL unit activist Mizan Biswash, also a student of IU Economic Department, shared a post combining offensive captions of the pictures of the victim students in a Facebook page named, Crush and Confession, Islamic University, Bangladesh.

Mizan, as an admin of the page, wrote ‘all the beautiful girls shaking IU are in the same frame. To get imo numbers, just stay with us pressing love reactions on the post.

This was followed by a storm of protests through social media platforms. The post was later removed from the page after receiving critical comments and the page authorities apologized for the post.

A victim student of Human Resource Department lodged a written complaint with the university Proctor office in this regard seeking punishment of the accused involved in the incident.

One of the victims said, ‘When I woke up, I was shocked to see a pornographic post on a university page using the pictures of 73 girls with my picture.’ How can the admin share the pictures of so many girls on an open Facebook fan page in the name of giving imo numbers, she asked.

The incident happened repeatedly on the campus in different times as the university authorities did not take any legal action against the accused, she alleged.

Acknowledging the incident, Mizan Biswas said, ‘I shared the post on the page taking it as fun. Giving imo number is a viral dialogue. Yet I was wrong; I apologize to everyone.

IU Vice-Chancellor Professor Shaikh  Abdus  Salam said, ‘I have instructed the ICT cell to find out the accused. The accused will not be released in any way, he added.
