Mymensingh, August 29 (BAU Correspondent/Our Voice): Bangladesh Agricultural University Teachers’ Association (BAUTA) rejected the uniform policy for the appointment and promotion of university teachers formulated by University Grants Commission (UGC).
They strongly criticized the policy at a press conference held at the university TSC conference room.
Recently, UGC has passed a uniform policy, dividing the government and autonomous universities into four categories and sent to the cabinet for approval. BAUTA condemned the uniform policy in a press release signed by Acting President of BAUTA Prof Dr Md Abu Hadi Nur Ali Khan and General Secretary of BAUTA Mohammad Moniruzzaman.
According to the press release, the policy for agricultural universities is stricter than other categories. They are shocked to have such policy for agricultural universities without any discussion. In that policy they have been despised and humiliated.
In a written statement, General Secretary of BAUTA Mohammad Moniruzzaman said, ‘The implementation of this policy will bring the agricultural, engineering, industrial and technical education in the brink of the destruction. Teachers expressed concern over the discrimination in the same grade in other government jobs and cadre services in the country. We will resist the policy by any cost.’
In the press conference, General Secretary of the Democratic Teachers’ Forum Prof Dr Muhammad Mahir Uddin said, ‘Though the same principles are being talked, there is a huge difference. Such inconsistencies will have an adverse effect on higher education. The formulation of this policy can lead to anarchy and chaos in the education sector. Teachers will resist such policies.’
