Students of Bangladesh Agriculture University (BAU) boycotted all classes and examinations demanding the university become closed because of Corona virus.
The student representatives of all the faculty of the university announced to abolition from the academic activities at Sunday afternoon.
Schools and colleges have already been declared closed in various countries around the world due to the outbreak of the pandemic novel Corona virus worldwide. Ever since the news of its affection published in Bangladesh, there has been panic among students. They have expressed their concern through social media.
It is learned that the students demanded that the class and exam should be postponed temporarily to avoid the risk of Corona. As a result, student representatives from each faculty collected the mass signature from the students and submitted it to the dean of their respective faculties. Then they joined a discussion with the administration of the university and demanded that the class-examination be closed administratively.
In this regard, Mohammad Shahed Hossain, General Secretary of the Faculty of Agriculture said, ‘We announced to abstain from academic activities after informing the administration to avoid the risk of Corona.’
On the demands of the students, Students’ Affairs Advisor Professor Dr. Md. Solaiman Ali Fakir said, ‘I have been informed about the abstention of the students from class-examinations. We are monitoring the situation administratively.’
Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof Dr Lutful Hassan said, ‘we took some steps to prevent the spread of Corona virus. We are working to raise awareness among the teachers, students, officers and employees. University will be declared closed after receiving government directives.’
