Berlin, March 26 (BEB/OurVoice): The Independence and National Day was observed by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Berlin with due solemnity and grand festivity. The Mission organized two separate programs, i.e. one for the Bangladesh community at the Chancery premise in the morning and another separate programme with reception for the diplomats, local dignitaries and eminent persons in the afternoon on 26 March at the Ballroom of Maritim Hotel, a press release from Bangladesh Embassy added.
The first programme at the Chancery premise started in the morning with the ceremonial hosting of the national flag by H.E. Imtiaz Ahmed, Ambassador in presence of Embassy officials, NRBs, students and others who joined from different parts of Germany to observe the occasion. H.E.the Ambassador along with other guests placed a floral wreath at the replica of the National Martyr’s Memorial. Our National Anthem was then rendered by the entire presence and one-minute silence was observed with due respect and enthusiasm to pay homage to the martyrs and freedom fighters of the great war of liberation who made supreme sacrifices for the independence of our country.
Messages from the Hon’ble President, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Foreign Minister and Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out and a documentary on the recent remarkable socio-economic progresses of Bangladesh was screened before the audience. A discussion session was held which was participated by eminent Bangladeshis and concluded by speech of H.E. the Ambassador. His Excellency the Ambassador highlighted the significance and importance of this auspicious day; remembered the immense sacrifices of the martyrs and freedom fighters under the leadership of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and urged all to work unitedly for the realization of ‘Sonar Bangla’ as envisioned by Bangabandhu under the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The programme concluded with special doa and monajat.
The National Day Reception was organized by the Embassy in the evening of the same day for the diplomats and local dignitaries at the Ballroom of Hotel Maritim, Berlin. The dignitaries included Ambassadors, members of German Bundestag (Parliament), high-level officials of German Government, intellectuals, business persons, journalists, academicians, prominent social workers and others. The reception started with playing National Anthems of Bangladesh and Germany. H.E. Imtiaz Ahmed, Ambassador then delivered his welcome speech highlighting the recent remarkable progresses made by Bangladesh with a video presentation and underscored the significance of the day and various aspects of bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and Germany. Her Excellency Ambassador Ina Lepel, Director General for Asia and the Pacific of the Federal Foreign Office was present as the special guest who also addressed the audience congratulating all Bangladeshis on the Independence Day and applauding the recent developments made by Bangladesh in all aspects. A cake of celebration was then cut by both the Ambassadorsalong with other dignitaries.
A special award-giving ceremony then took place whereby six German-based organizations those have been relentlessly working for years for the well-being of the people of Bangladesh, was honoured with crests. These organizations are namely- GerBanFibres Ltd., Hamburg; For Kids Sake, Dortmund; NETZ Bangladesh, Wetzlar; Söllhuber Foundation, Kroneberg; FOR Bangladesh, Mönchengladbach and German Doctors, Bonn. A cultural programme comprising traditional Bangladeshi dance of Farjana Shoukot Shahreen, own Bengali and German poem recitation by Mir Zabeda Yeasmin and Hossain Abdul Hai and songs by popular singer Abdul Munim and buffet dinner of Bangladeshi and German cuisines were enjoyed by all. Video presentations and photographic exhibitions on promotion of tourism and business of Bangladesh were simultaneously displayed before the audience during the dinner.
