Mymensingh, September 11 (BAU Correspondent/OurVoice): Demanding a separate technical cadre in the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS), the students of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (AET) faculty of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) announced to boycott all classes and exams.
They announced this in a human chain in front of Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Auditorium on Wednesday. The teachers of the faculty also took part and gave solidarity along with more than 400 students in human chain.
Imran Siddiq conducted the human chain while the Dean of the faculty Prof Dr Md Nurul Hoque, Head of the Department of Farm Structure and Environmental Engineering Dr Md Raihanul Islam, Professor of Agricultural Energy and Machinery Department Dr Md Monjurul Alam and some student leaders spoke in the human chain.
Speakers said, in the era of mechanization, of the shortage of arable land against the large population, farmers need to rely on technology to produce more crops. But at BCS, due to lack of opportunities for agriculture engineers in work field, they are unable to provide proper service to farmer’s doorstep. Besides, the scope of employment of agricultural engineers is decreasing day by day at Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA), Directorate of Agricultural Extension (DAE) and Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRI).
They urged the authority to fulfill their demands without any delay, otherwise all classes and exams will remain off.
