Former teacher and student of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) Dr. Shamsul Alam and Dr. Jahangir Alam have been nominated for the ‘Amar Ekushey Padak – 2020’ for their special contribution to economics and research category respectively.
Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI) was also nominated for this second highest civilian award of Bangladesh in research category.
The information was released in a press release signed by Md Faizur Rahman Faruqui, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Culture on Wednesday. The press release added, a total number of 20 eminent persons and one institution will be given ‘Amar Ekushey Padak-2020’ for their contribution in various aspects. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over the awards at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on February 20.
Dr. Shamsul Alam is a former teacher of the Department of Agricultural Business and Marketing. He has been serving as a Member for the post of Senior Secretary in the General Economics Department of the Planning Commission since 2009. He is also associated with sixth and seventh ‘Five Year Plan’ and ‘Delta Plan-2100’ of Bangladesh Government.
On the other hand, Dr. Jahangir Alam is a former student of faculty of Agriculture Economics and Rural Science. He has also served as the former Director General of Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) and former “Member-Director” of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC). He was also a member of BAU Journalists’ Association.
